Rachel's Hair Transformations

Making you feel like you again

Rachel’s Hair Transformations - Hair Loss Replacement Aftercare:

Pre-Application:

Wash your hair with clarifying shampoo to get rid of any product build up and do not condition your natural hair as this can cause extensions to slip once fitted. Make sure your hair is straight and ready for fitting. Once the hair system, wig or topper has been fitted, cut or customised there are strictly no refunds.

Maintenance:

The system may feel strange when first fitted. Tightness and itching are common symptoms and should subside after 1-2 weeks. Hair integration systems should be maintained and tightened every 4-5 weeks by Rachel’s Hair Transformations, removed and re-aligned 8-10 weekly. This is absolutely vital to ensure the quality of the hair is kept and no damage is done to your own hair. The top piece of your system has a lifespan of around 9-12months with the correct aftercare, so may need replacing after this time. Due to the delicate nature of the hair piece, there is no guarantee the hair piece will last the full 12 months. Thinning patches may occur, Rachel offers an infill service to knot extra hair back on in these areas for an extra charge. Make sure you check all the costs that are required for the upkeep and maintenance for the hair system before you go ahead. Your specialist will advise if you will need to re-tape or re-bond the front of the system as lifting can sometimes occur after washing or sweating. Tape can be purchased in the salon for between maintenance appointments.

Washing, Drying and styling:

DO NOT wash your system for the first 3 days after application. Be very careful and gentle with your system when washing. Only use products recommended by your specialist, sulphate free shampoos are optimal. As some other products can cause hair to become dry and damaged, shortening the life span. It is not recommended for hair oils to be placed near the root of the system as these can cause the hair system to slide. Try not to wash the hair more than twice a week as this can cause extra stress to the system. When washing the system, do not rub the hair but gently stroke the recommended shampoo into the hair in a downwards motion and rinse ensuring the flow of water is coming from above. Washing hair in the shower is the most effective and safest way, if not possible then use a cup/ jug in the bath, ensure you are pouring it from above your head. DO NOT dunk your head under the water. Using a deep conditioning treatment every 2 weeks will help keep the hair healthy and easier to manage. Only apply conditioner from the middle to the ends of the hair and lightly press the moisture out of the extensions with a towel after washing. You must ensure the hair system is dried completely with a hair dryer. It’s not recommended to let the hair air dry as this can cause matting. You must always style the hair in a loose plait at night to avoid tangling. Heat appliances such as straighteners, hair dryers and curling tongs can be used with a heat protection spray but overuse can cause breakage. A silk/satin pillowcase can help at night to avoid matting and tangling.

Brushing and Separating:

Always ensure you use a hair extension brush or tangle teezer to prevent the hair system from slipping. Be gentle, especially when wet and hold the top of the system whilst brushing. Natural hair sheds every day so it is vital the hair is brushed properly to avoid matting as much as possible. It is still common, however, for matting to occur at the root of your hair where the system is placed. The specialist will remove this matting when removing the system at refit appointment.

Colouring hair:

We do not recommend you colour or chemically change the hair system as the lifespan of the hair will be shortened, please contact Rachel’s Hair Transformations if you would like to change your hair.

The hair may fade over time, especially the lighter blondes and ashy tones. This is no fault of Rachel’s Hair Transformations, nor the supplier. Environmental factors can play a part in this, including sunlight, general washing, products and water hardness.

Holidays, Swimming and Sunbeds:

It is not recommended you go swimming whilst wearing the system, although if you must, make sure you apply leave-in conditioner, plait the hair and twirl into a bun to avoid matting. If possible try to keep them dry as possible. Rinse immediately and use a deep conditioning treatment after each exposure if they do get wet with chlorine or salt water as these can dry out the hair or cause them to become discoloured. UV rays and sun cream can fade or discolour the system as well as dry out the hair, so try to wrap the hair in a towel if you use a sunbed often. Consider wearing a sun hat/swimming hat when possible. Discolouration can also happen due to make up and suncream, ensure hair is not touching these products to prevent staining.

Washing, Heat and Sleep:

Only use products recommended by Rachel’s Hair Transformations, sulphate free shampoo should be used as some products shorten the lifespan or quality of the hair. We do not recommend most hair oils as these can cause the hair to bunch together and slip. If you do apply then only do so to the mids and ends. Try not to wash hair extensions more than twice a week as this can cause extra stress to the extensions. When washing hair, do not rub the extensions but gently massage the recommended shampoo into the hair in a downwards motion and rinse ensuring the flow of water is coming from above. Washing hair in the shower is the most effective and safest way, if not possible then use a cup/ jug in the bath, ensure you are pouring it from above your head. DO NOT dunk your head under the water. Using a conditioning treatment every 2 weeks can help keep the extensions in the best possible condition. Only apply conditioner from the middle to the ends of the hair and lightly press the moisture out of the extensions with a towel after washing. Be extra careful brushing when hair is wet. Heat appliances such as straighteners, hair dryers and curling tongs are fine to use but overuse can cause drying and breakage. Avoid the top of the extensions when applying any heat, as this can cause damage and melt the bonds. Apply Heat protection spray to your hair and extensions before every use of heat, this will protect the hair from heat damage and maintain the quality of the extensions. Sleep with your extensions in a loose plait at night and using a silk pillowcase can help reduce tangling. It is not recommended to air dry the hair extensions as this can cause matting and be difficult to brush.

Brushing and Separating:

Always use either a bristle brush or tangle teezer when brushing your hair extensions. Be gentle and hold the tops of the extensions whilst starting to brush any tangles from the bottom. This will prevent any slipping of the extensions or any unnecessary stress on the natural hair. Ensure you are separating the strands regularly at the root with your fingers to avoid any matting. Natural hair sheds everyday so it is vital the bonds are separated so that matting does not occur between the extension and natural hair.

Colouring hair:

It is not recommended you colour your extensions as the lifespan of the hair will be shortened. Using toners is acceptable by a professional but unnecessary processing may dry out the extensions. Your own hair can be coloured whilst the extensions are in as long as the chemicals do not touch the tips or bonds. It is advised to only have your T-Section coloured if necessary. The extensions may fade over time, especially the lighter blondes and ashy tones. This is no fault of Rachel’s Hair Transformations, nor the supplier. Environmental factors can play a part in this, including sunlight, general washing, products and water hardness.

Holidays, Swimming and Sunbeds:

It is not recommended you go swimming whilst wearing extensions, although if you must, wet your hair and make sure you apply a leave-in conditioner, plait the extensions and twirl into a bun. Rinse with clean water immediately after exposure and use a deep conditioning treatment. Chlorine and salt water can dry out the extensions or cause them to become discoloured. This is not a fault with the hair but the chemicals and minerals in the water. UV rays can dry out, fade or discolour extensions and break down bonds, so wrap the hair in a towel if you use a sunbed and consider wearing a sun hat in the sunshine. Discolouration can also happen due to make up and suncream, ensure hair is not touching these products to prevent staining.
